New contracts for domestic workers to be enforced from October 1
A NEW contract for domestic workers will be enforced from October 1, it was announced. Under the revised rules, employers seeking to hire a housemaid will have to compulsorily declare, among other things, the nature of the job, working hours and weekly day off. Continue reading

New LMRA warning
The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has warned the public against dealing with unlicensed recruitment agencies. Legal action is being taken against those violating the authority’s rules and regulations that protect the rights of citizens and residents, LMRA planning and licensing director Hassan Al Rahma said. Post Offices to offer 6 new services
The Labour Market Regulatory Authority plans to simplify services to customers by adding 6 new services in Post Offices in various governorates of the Kingdom starting April 5. LMRA visas for maids
The Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) will officially take over the responsibility of issuing work visas to housemaids and other domestic workers from tomorrow. Sharp drop in maid abuse cases
There has been a drop in the number of foreign housemaids coming forward with allegations of abuse during Ramadan. In previous years, extended working hours and allegations of general mistreatment during the Muslim holy month were blamed for large numbers of domestic workers fleeing their employers and seeking shelter.
