Law to protect maids vowed

HOUSEMAIDS are to get legal protection, to stamp out the trade in human misery, including forced prostitution. A new labour law will regulate the working hours and living conditions of domestic staff such as housemaids, drivers, childminders and cooks, said Bahrain National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking head Shaikh Abdulaziz Mubarak Al Khalifa.

Protect workers

NOW that the labour market standardisation is happening, lets also set some standards for the employers.

We need to ensure that all employees have a proper job contract given by the company. The job contract should include the mandatory clauses of salaries, benefits, holidays, overtimes, medical insurance, allowances, job specifications, etc.

Labour pact with Nepal

BAHRAIN yesterday signed a bilateral labour pact with Nepal to pave the way for secured employment opportunities and provide legal recognition to Nepali workers here. Bahrain Labour Minister Dr Majeed Al Alawi arrived in Kathmandu yesterday on a three-day long official visit leading a nine-member delegation.

Dr Al Alawi signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with his Nepali counterpart Ramesh Lekhak in Kathmandu.
