Bahrain plans clamp on hiring expats

New restrictions will be imposed on the hiring of expatriate workers to create more jobs for Bahrainis, said a senior government official.

Labour Minister and chairman of Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Jameel Humaidan said during the weekly parliament session that Bahrainisation was important to create a peaceful society, since jobs guaranteed personal security for local citizens. (more…)

MP slams CSB for delays

Hundreds of illegal expatriates arrested

Inspection raids aimed at reducing the number of expatriates working illegally in Bahrain have netted 1,416 people in the first six months of this year.Nearly 6,000 inspection raids were conducted by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) alone in the first half of 2010 which resulted in 329 employers being sanctioned for hiring expatriates without valid work visas. 338 illegal expat workers arrested in Bahrain
