Bosses call off LMRA protests

OPPONENTS to a tax on foreign workers have called off their weekly protests, but now hope to recruit thousands of Bahraini bosses into their campaign.

Private businesses were expected to resume their protest outside the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) for the fourth Sunday running yesterday.

MANAMA: Businessmen yesterday called for the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) to be axed during a workshop held to discuss private sector reforms.

EXPATRIATES who have failed to regularise their visas due to a backlog of cases at the Health Ministry will be given one last chance to become legal, officials have declared.

Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) chief executive Ali Radhi said officials had received hundreds of calls from people saying they were given appointments for medical examinations weeks after the expiry of yesterday’s government deadline. (more…)
