LMRA Officials Receive US Congress Delegation.. US Congress Delegation Reviews LMRA Initiatives and Hails Insurance System for Domestic Workers

The US Congress Delegation, Who visited the Kingdom of Bahrain recently , hailed the significant role assumed by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) in fostering and nurturing the work environment in conformity with the highest international standards which fully safeguard the rights of work-relationship parties. This is achieved by a set of ambitious initiatives and programmes which guarantee the labour rights and stand against human trafficking.

The US Congress Delegation also lauded the optional insurance system for domestic workers launched by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), in collaboration with the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) and Bahrain Insurance Association (BIA). This optional system is one of the key programmes that protect the rights of domestic workers as well as the employers.

It was announced at a joint meeting held at the headquarters of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), in the presence of members of the US Congress Delegation, as part of their current visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain. The meeting was attended by LMRA’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Resources & Services Mr. Ashraf Hafedh Emam, LMRA’s Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer for Planning & Development Mr. Duaij Khalifa Albinali, and LMRA’s Protection & Grievances Director Mrs. Shereen Khalil Al-Saati, in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, LMRA’s officials reviewed the key important initiatives, projects and measures adopted by the Kingdom of Bahrain for the improvement and advancement of the labour market, including the optional insurance system for domestic workers which aims at ensuring the greatest protection for employers and domestic workers, and compensating them or their heirs following the insured’s accident, in addition to the Wages Protection System, which enters the third phase next January and aims at protecting the rights and remunerations of workers of the private sector and paying their wages as agreed and on timely manner through financial institutions that are approved in Bahrain.

The meeting stressed on the endeavours of the Government of Bahrain, represented in LMRA’s efforts for assessing all aspects of work and the measures of handling labour issues in order to avoid any compulsory action, misuse or suspicion of human trafficking, in addition to establishing safe measures of protecting domestic workers and employers, for creating a healthy work environment surrounded by safe measures which contribute to achieving protection and justice for all parties.
