Illegal employment

Twenty-seven suspects have been referred to the Lower Criminal Court for allegedly supplying and employing workers without a licence and maintaining work permits without requiring them in violation of the law.

Chief Prosecutor Adnan Al Wadaie said the Public Prosecution had received several reports from the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) about cleaning companies and individuals providing hourly labourers for work at homes without obtaining permits. A drive was launched and 63 workers were found to have been victims of the crime. If found guilty, the suspects will face imprisonment for a period of one year, or a fine of up to BD2,000 for each worker.
